Benjamin Hunter on integrity in testing

Ben's Story

"Trusting my infant son to a team of certified doctors and nurses has forever changed my perspective on the importance of testing, and specifically on the importance of test security."
As I handed my 3-month-old son to a stranger that I had just met, expecting him to perform an operation that would involve stopping, opening, patching, closing, and restarting my boy’s heart, I found it comforting to be able to look around at the badges of the people that would handle my son's life-saving surgery. I was surrounded by high qualifications—RN, NP, Pediatric Cardiac Surgeon, Anesthesiologist, CRNA—qualifications that gave me a modicum of peace on that day. When we talk about how important it is to have valid exam results, it has real meaning, and real-world implications.

Sarah Toton on integrity in testing

Sarah's Story

"Although cheaters may gain an advantage on a test, they actually hurt themselves by setting a standard of competence that they cannot demonstrate in the future without cheating again."
Why should we have faith in a testing program when it has been tainted by unfairness? Cheaters knowingly create unfairness and void the benefits of standardization for their own personal gain. It makes me angry, but it also makes me sad, because although cheaters may gain an advantage on a test, they actually hurt themselves by setting a standard of competence that they cannot demonstrate in the future without cheating again. High-stakes tests affect lives, and cheating on them hurts everyone. Helping ensure that testing is fair is how I’ve chosen to give back to the world, and I feel good about that.

WE HAVE

a history of innovation.

2003

Caveon is founded, dedicated entirely to test security. The founders outline the first comprehensive suite of test security fundamentals and establish Caveon Data Forensics℠ and Web Patrol® as services.

2009

In a research journal, Caveon introduces Discrete Option Multiple Choice™ (DOMC) items, which achieve high-quality measurement while reducing the amount of test content that is exposed to test takers.

2018

David Foster presents the SmartItem™ at ATP, proposing to wipe out almost all security threats, reduce test development and maintenance costs, and ensure greater validity for the use and generalization of test scores.

2006

Online proctoring, often referred to as remote proctoring, was introduced to the testing industry in 2006 by David Foster, in collaboration with Kryterion, at the annual conference of the Association of Test Publishers.

2012

Caveon introduced the principles of Information Integration Theory (IIT) into the psychometrics of test development, providing cognitive science support for how cutscores can be more reliably determined.

WE VOW

to make the world better.

Corporate Social Responsibility

As leaders in the testing industry, we take it upon ourselves to investigate the ways in which we can make tests themselves more fair. We do this because we know the ripple effects of a more-fair testing universe will have a profoundly positive impact on society.

Giving Back to Our Communities

To encourage the practice of volunteering our time and money to worthy causes, Caveon encourages a “give-back” mentality by offering a charitable donation matching program and dedicated paid time off for volunteering and community service.

Diversity, Accessibility, and Inclusion

Nobody’s perfect, but that shouldn’t stop us from getting better. In addition to innovating smarter ways to make tests more fair and accessible, we also work with a third-party expert to ensure our internal company culture meets high standards of inclusion and accessibility for all.

WE'RE FROM

virtually all over.
