Test Security highlighted in Quintessential Test Development Book
SALT LAKE CITY, UT—Underscoring the importance of test security, the newest version (3rd edition) of Criterion Referenced Test Development co-authored by Shrock and Coscarelli contains three important side bars on test security issues. These sidebars include, security planning, why cheating is on the rise, and data forensics use in detecting testing irregularities.
Caveon’s own Jamie Mulkey, Ed.D., wrote the sidebars for CRTD’s 3rd edition. Says Dr. Mulkey, “test security is a crucial part of any test development process. By being prepared, and knowing the obstacles you face with cheating and test theft, practitioners can proactively stop cheating before it happens.”
Criterion Reference Test Development now in its 3rd edition is the consummate reference book for test development professionals. As in previous editions, Shrock and Coscarelli take a step-by-step approach in providing the rationale, the processes, and examples of how tests and high stakes exams should be developed. “We felt it was important to address test security in this edition”, says Sharon Shrock, Ph.D. “Our book focuses on the importance of creating tests that support job performance. If job performance is undermined by cheating, the work place suffers and so do the outcomes.” Shrock added. “Additionally, there can be legal implications for individuals who fraudulently pass a test.” says William Coscarelli, Ph.D. It’s not just the individual malpractice that can do damage, it can reflect on, and have negative and severe consequences for an entire organization.”
Caveon is proud to have contributed to this seminal work. “We hope that readers will benefit from this book’s rudimentary fundamentalprocesses and practical applications.” Says, President, John Fremer. “We are particularly pleased that test security was selected as an important topic for inclusion.”
