Dear Associate,

Over the last year I’ve pointed to numerous articles that highlight the problem of cheating in Nigeria. Today I read a mesmerizing “insider” view by Dan Hoyle a Fulbright scholar from San Francisco attending the University of Port Harcourt in Nigeria. Dan offers an objective eyewitness account of the many forms of corruption among university students and faculty including: bribery, extortion, fraud, and of course, cheating. Check out “Academic Mercenaries” below.

Recently Greg Cizek of University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, produced a report reviewing test security procedures associated with the student assessment program for the Texas Education Agency. Cizek's thoughtful and well-written report commends a number of aspects of current Texas state testing security procedures and offers specific recommendations for enhancing security. The report is a valuable source of information and ideas on ways of enhancing security in state assessment programs. Click here to view the full Cizek report (available under the What’s New button).

Regards,
Don Sorensen
