Dear Associate,

Just as I was putting the final touches on this week’s newsletter I received an e-mail from Becky Nagel, Editor at CertCities.com. She had just read a press release touting a website that is giving away (free) a “nicely formatted PDF document [that] contains 595 verified correct questions and answers” for various IT exams. My colleagues reviewed a sampling of the questions and we are quite sure the site owners are telling the truth. Many of these questions are indeed actual test questions.

One of our Senior Security Directors, Jamie Mulkey said, “I must admit, I’ve never see such blatant, “in your face” behavior from a braindump site. Not only is the site giving away IT certification test items, but it has also announced the availability of those items through a press release. I don’t need to tell you how hard testing programs work to develop and deploy certification exams. Giving away test items devalues the certified professionals, the test, and the program.”

Jamie is right, and the good news is something is being done about it. A new security initiative is being formed within the ATP Certification/Licensure division. This initiative has three subcommittees: Intellectual Property, Security Planning, and Data Protection. If you’d like to join one of these committees and help in the fight against test theft contact Jamie Mulkey at: jamie.mulkey@caveon.com.

On the same subject there will be a Caveon webinar next week on March 22 titled: Heist! Who is Selling Your Exams on the Internet. Learn more about this free webinar.
